One of the traditional festivals that are celebrated in Sant Joan Despí is called the St. George’s day.
This festival is celebrated in: 23rd April
This celebration is a little bit romantic, because all the couples give presents to their beloved.
Like, for example all the boys give a rose to his parner, and all the girls give a book to his parner.
Since all this day and days before, all the shops are full of roses and in my school some people sell books too!!!!
Lots of children do activities about St. George in their schools too!!( they do bookmarks, plays...)

Another tradicional festivity is called tres tombs. In this celebration we can see horses doing three turns around the village. Some people of Sant Joan Despi can ride it.
This festivity is on January. We can't know the date because every year is on a different day.

The Carnival in our town is celebrated with a Rua, a dance party for adults an one for children.
I always participate with my youth club (CASTANYOT) and Ariadna, Laura, Eva, Laia, Roser and Míriam too. When the Rua finishes we go all toghether to a restaurant to have dinner. Then we go to the dance party in the sports center and we play all night.

Firework

The firework is a game or a spectacle that makes in the streets of cities and towns. It is an event that held mostly in Catalonia, but has also spread by Valencia and the Balearic Islands. The firework came out in several parades to festivals or popular celebrations in Catalonia as an impromptu demonstration of people, dragons and devils acting running, jumping and dancing together under the fire.

The day of Sant George is an important celebration for Catalans, because it is a romantic and historical day. The boys give a rose to his girlfriend and the girls give a book to his boyfriend. Sant George celebrate on April 23. The people walk for the street to buy books and the roses, they enjoy very much because this is very romantic. The history counts of sant jordi, a gentleman, bush to the dragoon with his sword, and of the blood of the dragoon, a rose goes out.

In Catalunya a great deal of emphasis is placed on the Summer Solstice - the shortest night of the year. It is a public holiday renowned for the electric atmosphere in the air and the crazy parties that take place. If you are in Barcelona during this period there is no way that you will miss the date - fires in the streets and the constant crack of fireworks will make sure of that! The celebrations take place on 23 June each year but the actual feast day is on the 24 June.
